It has been a triumphant 18 months for The Mae Trio. Renowned for their stellar three-part harmonies, sophisticated instrumentation and songwriting, The Mae Trio has toured the UK three times, including appearances at Celtic Connections (Glasgow) and Cambridge Folk Festival; performed at Nashville’s prestigious Americana Festival and was the break-out act of Folk Alliance International in Kansas City.

The Melbourne-based contemporary folk trio has also shared stages with Ruth Moody and the Milk Carton Kids and toured Australia from Woodford Folk Festival to Port Fairy Folk Festival, winning the Maton Class Act Award and the National Film and Sound Archive Award for Folk Recording of the Year.

Their latest release – September – follows their critically acclaimed debut Housewarming and is their first release in two years as the tour trails consumed their focus. September is a musical photograph capturing a particular moment in the lives of The Mae Trio, specifically the month of September 2015. Featuring three songs written by fellow artists, spanning the ocean of the band’s influences from their own deep roots in the extended family of folk music to their first toe-dipping into contemporary pop, September also features two originals, both homages to the deep love between a girl and her banjo.

Recorded in a living room over two days: just the three Maes, their instruments and an occasional Tassie whiskey journeying into the wee hours in the sweet air of Maggie and Elsie’s hometown of Castlemaine in Central Victoria, September is a reverie.
